The X Bar X Boys books were a series of Western adventure stories aimed at juveniles and produced by the Stratemeyer Syndicate, the same people who created the Tom Swift books, the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and dozens of other series. Twenty-one X Bar X Boys stories were published from 1926 to 1942. Today they are collectibles.

Above is a detail of a painting by the American artist J. A. Speer (1895-1955) who specialized in the grand scenery of the golden west. This previously unknown original depicts a scene somewhere in Colorado. On the back it is signed and dated 1930. Years later it was found in a rummage sale and bought for one dollar. The purchasers gave it to me in 1977. I chose it for this site because Colorado 1930 is the date and place of the best of the adventures of the X Bar X Boys. A small scan of the full painting is shown to the right.

My name is David Baumann. I have been a serious collector of series books since 1988. During this time I have put together a collection of about one hundred complete series—over 1,500 books. I also like to write, and have combined these two interests in this website.

The site is dedicated to the X Bar X Boys series, not because it is my favorite series (it isn’t), but because it appears that, in spite of many other terrific websites dedicated to various series books and series subjects, no one else I know of has taken a serious look at the X Bar X Boys. The series merits some attention, for there are some excellent qualities and fine writing in it. I hope you will enjoy the site, and welcome your comments, including corrections and suggestions for improvement. Follow the “contact me” link.
